Indian Water Buffalo Sandals, hand painted by my friend Patucci in the 80s? 90s?
I ordered my first pair from an ad in the New Yorker in 1970 or so. I was so happy to hippie-fy my feet.
This particular pair are in my collection of unwearables — you can see the right sole is wearing out and they're too precious to damage further.
They remind me of the days as a brazen teenager, marching to my own beat.
I'm claiming that beat loud and clear and I seem to be circling back to creative pursuits discovered then: weaving and other analog textile arts, shoe making, silkscreening -- will modern dance be next?
